All about Year 1
This is a short guide to your child’s first term in Year 1. We hope you find it useful. Mrs Howells and Miss Maybee are the Year 1 teachers. Your child will also be supported by our Learning Support Assistants, Mrs Hull and Mrs Smith.
During the year, your child will study a variety of themes that make links between different subjects including English, Maths, ICT, History, Geography, Art and Music.
Through these themes, the children will be encouraged to develop a range of skills including:
P- Problem solving
I – Investigating
T – Thinking
R- Reflecting
I-Imagining
C-Collaborating
PE
The children will have an outside PE session with external coach, Mark who will focus on improving the children’s fitness and gross motor skills. The children will also have an indoor PE lesson each week focussing on apparatus and dance skills. PE lessons are on a Friday.
HOMEWORK
Children should read their individual Oxford Reading Tree books every day. The children are also practicing to read and write the high frequency words from the Letters and Sounds document.
Spring term holiday project
This term the children will be really focusing on traditional tales. For Homework, we would like the children to draw, write or make a model about their favourite book. It can be a favourite book that your child reads over and over again or maybe it can be an opportunity to visit the library.
