Playground Pals

Hi we’re the playground pals and we’re here to help. Being a playground pal is fun because we give awards to people who are good on the playground. Although we give awards that’s not the best part about being a playground pal, the best part is helping other children out when they are upset and making them happy! It’s not always fun though, sometimes we have to sort out some serious issues.
Most people become a playground pal in year 3 and get chosen in year 2.

Being a playground pal is a very responsible job. Every month one of us is awarded ‘Pal of the month’.

Playground pals help people when they have problems and when they are hurt or upset.

We can still play with our friends but we look out for people who need us.

When we’re in year 5 and 6 we get trained to become a mediator and we get a blue and gold badge to put on our caps, so children know we’re mediators.

Being a playground pal is a great privilege because you are able to help people sort out their problems. We wear red hats so that people can see us quickly. We have a meeting every Thursday so we can discuss what’s happened in the week.

We have a bench for people who are upset or lonely and we help them. We can give awards in assembly for good playground behaviour.

Not everyone is confident enough to approach the playground pals and they have to be mature and sensible enough to approach the person who is troubled without scaring them.
Playground pals also do a lot of fundraising. This year we held a Pirate day for the RNLI. We encouraged everyone to dress up as pirates and ran games and activities.

Having playground pals makes a big difference to the children at Earlsdon School!

Playground pals are really cool,
They help people around the school.
We wear red caps that stand out in the crowd,
It makes us feel very proud.
If you’re feeling lonely, happy or sad,
Playground pals will help you out!
In our playground we have a red bench,
Which helps you out when you’re stuck in a trench.
Old or young, big or small,
Remember, we will help you all!
