Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Newsletter
October 2009

Hello and welcome to the first PTA newsletter of this school year. The PTA organises a number of fundraising and social events throughout the school year – with the money raised we fund projects and equipment around the school for the benefit of the children. Within this newsletter we would like to tell you about some of the up coming events and activities we are planning, and also how we would like to spend the money we have raised.

Children’s Film Night
The two events we ran last year were an overwhelming hit with the children, so have planned a ‘Scooby Doo’ film night for Key Stage One children on Thursday 12th November. Tickets for this will be available after half term.

Cake Sale
There will be a cake sale on the playground after school on Friday 13th November. These events are extremely popular and we need lots and lots of cakes to sell. Please bring in home baked or shop bought cakes into school by 2.00 on the Friday afternoon.

Quiz Night (for grown ups)
Following on from the success of the last Quiz Night, the PTA will be running another event later this term. This event should take place on Friday 4th December at St Barbara’s church hall. Details for this event will be confirmed after the half term holiday.

Carols around the Tree
On Tuesday 15th December at 6.00pm, the PTA will be holding an informal Carols Evening in the school hall. Entrance will be 50p, including mulled wine and mince pies. We will also have a collection on the evening for Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity. Please put the date in your diaries and come along and support this lovely traditional pre-Christmas get together.

Christmas Cards
This year the PTA will be selling packs of Christmas Cards printed with individual children’s artwork. These cards are fantastic for family (grandparents love them!) and friends, and are a unique reminder of your child’s time at Earlsdon Primary School - as well as a great way to boost PTA funds! We will be sending out more information about this after half term.

Future Projects
The PTA has agreed to provide approximately £3,000 to buy new lighting in the upstairs hall. This will make the children’s productions even more enjoyable and very professional events. We are hoping that the lighting will be in place in time for Christmas productions, if not early in the New Year.

The PTA is also hoping to assist with buying some cushions and rugs to brighten up the library area. Other possible projects for the future include helping fund some changes to the front garden to improve its use as an outdoor area for Year One, buying new coat hooks for after school club and purchasing new PTA notice boards.
